To adjust the anchor points, go to the Effects Control panel. For example, you may want to move the anchor point to the bottom left side of a clip in order to make that clip rotate around that 'pivot' point.
The anchor point in After Effects is the point in which all transformations are manipulated from. In a practical sense the anchor point is the point in which your layer will scale and rotate around. While it may seem silly to have an anchor point and a position transform property both of these parameters do very different things.
Use the anchor point to set the position of an on-screen image
- When adjusting Position controls, you're actually changing the location of the clip anchor point, which, in turn, adjusts the position of the clip.
An anchor point's location is based on the clip dimensions
- While the Position controls are relative to the size of the sequence frame, the location of the anchor point is relative to the size of the clip, which may be different.
Rotate clips around the anchor point
- Clip rotation occurs around the anchor point. Change the relative position of the anchor point to achieve more advanced rotation effects.

If you need more precision, or need to match anchor points for multiple clips, select the clip, then, in the Effect Controls panel, enter the precise numbers you need for the Anchor point for the selected clip.
